Region Changing

This is add-on section for region changing your arm9loaderhax CFW SysNAND. This is done by installing the 9.2.0 CTRTransfer image for the region you want to switch to.

Region changing is almost completely unnecessary since Luma3DS supports out of region games and individual title region emulation.

This process will unlink your NNID from the system, since it will no longer be compatible with it. NNID’s are locked to the region of your device that created them, and cannot be transferred between regions without a very complex and advanced process.

After this process, only New 3DSs which have never accessed the eShop before and any Old 3DSs will be able to access the eShop after creating a new NNID on their new region. Region changed New 3DSs that have already accessed the eShop on their original region cannot create a new NNID and access the eShop on their new region!

Note that occasionally the eShop will inexplicably still not work for devices that it should work for. This is entirely to do with Nintendo’s servers, and I really do not have any control over it.

Similar to the above warning, note that occasionally the eShop will inexplicably work for devices that it should not (such as some New 3DSs). The cause for this is currently unknown.

Region changing using CTRTransfer (which this method uses) seems to cause reboot patches to break. The cause for this is unknown, but for now Old 3DS users will be unable to play extended memory mode games (such as Monster Hunter, Super Smash Bros, and Pokémon Sun / Moon) until they format their devices (details at the end of this page).

You MUST have already installed arm9loaderhax + Luma3DS to use this.

Section I - Prep Work

1. Power off your device
2. Insert your SD card into your computer
3. Create a folder named cias on the root of your SD card if it does not already exist
4. Copy GodMode9.bin from the GodMode9 .zip to the /luma/payloads/ folder on your SD card
5. Copy the 9.2.0 CTRTransfer image .bin from the CTRTransfer .zip to the /files9/ folder on your SD card
6. Copy FBI.cia from the FBI .zip to the /cias/ folder on your SD card
7. Reinsert your SD card into your device

Section II - CTRTransfer

1. Launch GodMode9 from arm9loaderhax by holding (Start) during boot
2. Navigate to [0:] SDCARD -> files9
3. Press (A) on the CTRTransfer .bin to select it
4. Select “CTRNAND options…”
5. Select “Transfer image to CTRNAND”
6. If prompted, select “Transfer to SysNAND”
   • This prompt will only appear if you have an EmuNAND
7. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl1) writing, then input the key combo given
   • This process will take some time
8. Once the transfer has completed, press (A) to continue
9. Press (B) twice to return to the main menu
10. Navigate to [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND -> dbs
11. Press (A) on ticket.bak to select it, then select “Ticket.db options…”, then select “Mount image to drive”
12. If it exists, hold (R) and press (A) at the same time on eshop to select the folder, then select “Copy to 0:/gm9out”
    • This process may take some time if you have many tickets
    • Press (A) to continue once it has completed
13. If it exists, hold (R) and press (A) at the same time on unknown to select the folder, then select “Copy to 0:/gm9out”
    • This process may take some time if you have many tickets
    • Press (A) to continue once it has completed
14. Press (Start) to reboot your device
15. Update your device by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”
    • Updates while using A9LH + Luma (what you have) are safe
    • If this gives you an error, set your DNS settings to “auto”

Section III - Injecting FBI

1. Reboot holding (Start) during boot to launch the Luma3DS chainloader menu
2. Launch GodMode9 by pressing (A)
3. Navigate to [0:] SDCARD -> cias
4. Press (A) on FBI.cia to select it, then select “CIA image options…”, then select “Mount image to drive”
5. Press (A) on the .app file, then select “NCCH image options”, then select “Inject to H&S”
6. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl1) writing, then input the key combo given
7. Press (A) to continue
8. Press (Start) to reboot your device
9. If you still launch to the stock Health & Safety app and have downgraded with Gateway in the past, follow this troubleshooting guide

Section IV - Reinstalling Tickets

If you had no eshop or unknown folders earlier, skip this section.

1. Launch Health and Safety (which is now FBI)
2. Navigate to SD -> cias
3. Select “FBI.cia”
4. Select the “Install” option, then press (A) to confirm
5. Return to the SD directory with (B)
6. Select “gm9out”
7. Do the following process for either the eshop folder, unknown folder, or both
   • Navigate to the folder
   • Select “<current directory>”
   • Select “Install and delete all tickets”
   • Wait. The system may appear to freeze, just give it time.
   • Press (A) to confirm
   • Press (B) to decline installing tickets from CDN.
8. Press (Home) to exit FBI

Section V - Region settings

1. Launch the System Settings
2. Go to “Other Settings”, “Profile”, then “Region Settings”
3. Select a country from the region you switched to
4. If prompted, you do not need to set a state
5. Update your region changed CFW SysNAND to the latest version

Section VI - Restore Health and Safety

1. Reboot holding (Start) during boot to launch the Luma3DS chainloader menu
2. Launch GodMode9 by pressing (A)
3. Press (Home) to bring up the action menu
4. Select “More…”
5. Select “Restore H&S”
6. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl1) writing, then input the key combo given

Section VII - Remove CTRTransfer image

1. Navigate to [0:] SDCARD -> files9
2. Press (X) on the CTRTransfer image .bin to delete it
3. Press (A) to confirm
4. Press (Start) to reboot your device

Old 3DSs / 2DSs may need to format (using TinyFormat or the System Settings) to play extended memory mode games (such as Monster Hunter, Super Smash Bros, or Pokemon Sun/Moon).
